Analytical foundations for Europe’s future hydrogen system
The System Planning & Modelling department develops methodologies, models, and assessments that support ENNOH’s role in long-term hydrogen infrastructure planning. We ensure that future hydrogen network needs are assessed transparently, consistently, and with robust analytical tools. In this department, the Working Group Planning & Modelling (WG P&M) is anchored, coordinating the technical development work and expert discussions across ENNOH.
What we do
We provide the modelling, analytical frameworks, and technical insights needed for hydrogen system planning at European level.
Our core activities include:
- TYNDP (The full Ten-Year Network Development Plan has its own dedicated webpage with detailed information.)
- Developing methodologies (CBA, system needs, scenarios)
- Conducting Cost–Benefit Analysis (CBA) for hydrogen infrastructure
- Assessing system needs
- Scenario drafting in cooperation with ENTSOG and ENTSO-E
- Project collection
- Building and maintaining advanced modelling tools (PyPSA)
- Developing an integrated market–network model
- Supporting repurposing guidance for hydrogen infrastructure
Why our work matters
Our work helps ensure that Europe’s emerging hydrogen network is planned:
- Efficiently, by identifying the most cost-effective infrastructure solutions
- Reliably, by assessing system resilience and adequacy
- Transparently, through robust and consistent methodologies
- Coherently, by aligning hydrogen and gas system planning in cooperation with ENTSOG
The outputs of our team inform regulatory processes, guide infrastructure investment decisions, and support the wider transition to a hydrogen economy.
